Noninvasive and in vivo imaging methods are of particular importance for the longitudinal investigation of animal models of human diseases.
     These modalities may be classified into primarily morphological or anatomical and primarily molecular imaging techniques.    
     The ZTL Imaging Center offers a multimodal platform for studies on small animal models.

     Special workstations for the evaluation of MRT, μCT and FMT data are available.

Small animal imaging has become established as an important tool in preclinical research. Nevertheless, the results of non-invasive imaging are often disappointing due to a sub-optimal selection of imaging techniques or deficiencies in study design, experimental setup, or data evaluation.
The main focus of research in these areas is the standardization of small animal imaging methods.

In addition, the main focus is on the special handling of animals for the imaging and economic management of the small animal imaging center.

Calibration procedures, data postprocessing and special imaging applications for various models of human diseases form the further focus of research activities.

Further research interests include cardio-vascular applications, monitoring of implants, lung imaging and physiological, spectroscopic applications.
